Your Biggest Advantage this Holiday Season

Preparation

As the holidays approach, schedules shift, routines change, and demands pile up. It’s easy to feel pulled in every direction—and even easier for healthy habits to slide.

But there’s one thing that consistently helps people stay grounded and in control this time of year: preparation.

Preparation reduces stress, preserves your energy, and helps you make intentional choices—even on the busiest days. It doesn’t require perfection. It just requires a little thought and structure.

Here are a few simple preparation strategies that can make your season feel smoother and healthier:

1. Review your week before it starts

Looking ahead helps you anticipate challenges, plan workouts, and build in time for what matters most.

2. Choose your non-negotiables

Pick a few actions—movement, hydration, sleep, balanced meals—that keep you centered no matter how full your calendar is.

3. Build margin into your schedule

Leave space for the unexpected. A little buffer goes a long way.

4. Prepare easy, balanced food options

Having healthy choices available reduces last-minute decisions that derail progress.

5. Set up your environment to support your goals

Small habits—like laying out clothes, prepping snacks, or filling a water bottle—remove friction and help you stay consistent.

As we head into Thanksgiving week, plan for your celebration.  Bring a healthy dish to pass, choose to use those leftovers for turkey soup instead of pot pie, and even if you aren't joining in on the Turkey Trot, take a walk in after dinner and again over the weekend.

Preparation doesn’t just help you maintain your routines—it helps you enjoy the season more fully.

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing simple, actionable strategies to help you stay consistent, energetic, and grounded through the holidays
