Action Over Intention

The Friday morning after Thanksgiving is always a little interesting.
I headed to the gym for my own workout, then stayed to train a client… and the place was quiet. Not surprising — most people were still in that cozy, slow-moving holiday mode.
But the few who were there?
All familiar faces. The regulars. The people who show up all year long, not just when the calendar tells them it’s time to “start over.”
We chatted, said our usual hellos, and you could tell — this wasn’t a chore for them. This is just part of who they are. A lifestyle. A touchpoint in their day. Sometimes even a social hour.
These are the people who don’t rely on motivation. They rely on commitment.
And it hit me again how different that Friday crowd is from the January 1st crowd.
On Black Friday, no one is declaring resolutions. No one is trying to reinvent themselves. You just see the people who decided a long time ago that their health matters — and they follow through because the choice was already made.
And honestly? That’s the core of navigating the holidays successfully.
It’s not about perfection. It’s not about restriction.
It’s not about making yourself the odd one out at every gathering.
It’s about pausing — even for a moment — and making a clear, definite decision about what matters to you right now…and then choosing to follow through.
Just like you do at work.Just like you do with your family.
Just like you do in any area where you’ve committed to something.
And for the holidays, I like to boil that down to a few simple non-negotiables. Nothing intense. Nothing that pulls you away from joy, celebration, or connection. Just the basics that help you stay you through the season. Start with these 2 cornerstones:
Cornerstone #1: Hydration
Everything feels harder when you’re dehydrated — energy, mood, hunger, workouts, digestion.
Set a simple goal: refill your bottle and drink consistently throughout the day.
Cornerstone #2: Daily Movement
Not a full workout unless you want it.Just movement.Steps, yes, but also... A walk, a stretch, 10 minutes to move your body and reset your mind.
When you commit to these small choices, everything else becomes easier. No guilt. No “I’ll start over in January.” Just steady, realistic momentum.
And if you want a little support with that?
I’m running a simple Holiday Commitment Challenge — with a downloadable PDF, a few weekly cornerstones, and group support to help you stay anchored through December. Email Me Now, to join the group!
A tiny bit of commitment now pays off big later.
xoxo,
Kim
