A Lesson from a 100 Year Life

Mindset Matters

Last night, I didn’t send out my usual Sunday newsletter.

Instead, I was driving home, six hours from Chicago, after attending an incredible 100th birthday celebration.

And I need to tell you… it’s an experience that will stay with me.

The woman being celebrated is everything you would hope someone could be at 100 years old.

She is kind-hearted, generous, fun-spirited, and still open to adventure. She laughs easily. She connects with people. She shows up fully.

But what stood out to me just as much as her energy as I reflected on the night was something deeper - her conviction.

She has lived her life with strong beliefs and values, and she’s been confident in the way she’s chosen to live according to them.

As we were leaving, her son shared something that really caught my attention.

Even now, at 100, she is healthy.

Yes, she has quite a bit of arthritis - understandably, from a lifetime of movement - but beyond that? Her heart, her lungs, her organs… they are all clear, all functioning beautifully.

And it made me think.

We often separate mindset from physical health. We talk about nutrition, workouts, lab results, protocols - but what about the way we think? The way we approach life? The beliefs we carry every single day?

And interestingly - there’s research to support this.

Large-scale studies have shown that individuals with a more optimistic outlook have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and even a lower overall risk of mortality. In some cases, optimism has been linked to up to a 30–35% reduction in major heart-related events.

This isn’t just about “positive thinking.”

It’s about how your mindset influences your behaviors, your stress response, your recovery - and ultimately, your physiology.

Your body is always listening.

It responds not just to what you eat or how you move, but also to how you live.

To your outlook.

To your sense of purpose.

To the level of conviction you bring to your life.

We all have challenges. Stress. Setbacks. Seasons that test us.

But we also have a choice.

A choice in how we respond.

A choice in how we frame our circumstances.

A choice in what we believe is possible for ourselves.

“If you believe you can, you can. If you believe you cannot, you cannot.”

That mindset doesn’t just influence your results in the gym or your consistency with nutrition - it influences your physiology.

It influences your resilience, your ability to recover, adapt, and keep moving forward.

Health is not just physical.

It’s not just medical.

It’s the integration of body, mind, and the way you show up in your life.

So today, I’ll leave you with this:

What are you choosing to believe about your health?

Because that belief might be shaping more than you realize.

Xoxo,

Kim
